Senior Technical Designer
Location: Huntington Park, CA (On-site)
Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 annually (DOE)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Designer to oversee all aspects of technical design for our collections. This role involves developing fit comment documents for all garment components, ensuring quality and fit integrity from initial proto stage through production, and maintaining product design integrity within calendar deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of technical design for every collection.
- Develop fit comment documents for all garment components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, production, and quality control, to address technical challenges and facilitate smooth transitions from design to production.
- Work closely with the design team to develop initial specs for each new season.
- Maintain quality and fit integrity/consistency from initial proto stage through production.
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including flat sketches, measurement specifications, and construction details for denim products.
- Prepare and lead fit sessions, note call-outs, and log critiques to accurately and efficiently communicate all fit, quality, and construction comments/issues.
- Complete fit comments proactively and in a timely manner.
- Make pattern corrections to vendors' patterns or pattern screenshot images as necessary.
- Ensure company grade rules, tolerances, and quality standards are met.
- Establish fit consistency across vendors.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical issues related to fit, construction, and production.
- Identify opportunities to improve technical design processes and workflows for efficiency.
- Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to communicate technical requirements, resolve issues, and ensure timely and accurate production of denim products.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in technical design, with a focus on denim.
- Proficiency in MS Office & Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, and/or Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and sewing techniques, particularly in the denim category.
- Highly proficient in understanding patterns, grading, and the ability to make and explain pattern corrections to factories.
- Ability to manage within development calendar with strong awareness of production calendar deadlines and deliveries.
- Understanding of different fabric types.
- Detail-oriented with a keen eye for quality and precision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams and external partners.
- Must be able to build relationships with effective communication throughout the company.
- Strong understanding of the product development and manufacturing processes in partnership with offshore manufacturers.
- Knowledge of sustainable practices in denim manufacturing is a plus.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
